AY 21/22 Y4S1 Review

Took 4 MPEs this semester, with a total of 12 AUs only, which should be very manageable right, considering the fact that I took 21 AUs back in year 1, but omg, I don't know why it didn't feel any easier 🙃 Maybe it's because I'm getting older and my brain isn't as competent anymore or something HAHAH  Side note: ended up writing quite a long review again this sem hahah & I can't seem to find good reviews for the mods I've taken this sem, so really hope my review helps! :) CM4012 - Structural Determination | CORE | 3AU | B+ Part 1 (50%):   4 Homeworks (5 marks each, 20%): 20/20 Quiz 1 (10%): 8/10 Quiz 2 (20%): 16/20 Part 2 (50%): 5 Online Quizzes (5%) 5 Pre-tutorials (10%) 5 Reflections (10%) Midterm (25%): 39/60 [Average: ~36/60] Part 1 was conducted via recorded PowerPoint slides which was quite annoying as you cannot speed it up.  Also, the prof only uploaded the slides without annotations (after a few weeks) as some students feedbacked to him, but I h...

AY20/21 Y3S2 Review

So, I underloaded the last sem due to a rather unsuccessful course registration that messed up my plans lol so I ended up taking only 15AUs.  BUT, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because the mods I took this sem were quite content-heavy/heavy workload.  Will underloading manage to pull up my GPA?  I don't think so, but at least it won't drop significantly (I hope) hahah 😂 Oh and because my friends and I took different combinations of yr3 mods last sem, so we went into this sem with tips from the last sem.  Thus, in a way, we are better prepared to tackle the content which is awesome 😉 Oh, & I'm playing around with the blog themes so don't be surprised that the blog will look different from time to time lol Side note: I somehow ended up writing a super long review this sem idk why hahah CM3021 - Organometallic Chemistry | CORE | 3AU | A 5 Online Quizzes, 5 MCQs each (5%): 5% 6 Pre-Tutorial & Tutorial (10%) 5 Reflections (10%) Midterm 1 (25%): 40/...

AY20/21 Y3S1 Review

This semester had a shift in assessment weightage.  CORE modules weightage in past semesters had been 40% CA and 60% Finals, but this semester was 60% CA and 40% Finals.  To me, it has its pros and cons.  Pros are that studying for finals was not as stressful as the 60% CA has more or less determined your grade.  Cons are that the workload during the semester increased with many graded assignments/homework which I was not used to so that definitely increased the level of stress for me.  Overall, I would say this semester was okay because the CORE mods I took was not the difficult ones, I am expecting my GPA to increase slightly (results ain't out yet)  so that it can cushion the potential drop in my GPA next sem.  Because I have to take the difficult mods next sem which means my grades are likely to plummet 🙃   I also joined a new CCA with quite a high commitment level, so I hope I will be able to manage both my studies and CCA well  🤞 🙏💪...

AY19/20 Y2S2 Review

This semester was unprecedented because of the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.  As a result, most of the content that was supposed to be covered were cut short and not tested.  For the modules I took, the finals were cancelled/replaced entirely.  So, this review may not be relevant for future semesters. Anyway, my general thoughts on this "unique" semester are that it was initially very stressful due to the frequent changes in assessment criteria.  However, in the end, the arrangement worked out well at least for me and I was more relaxed hahah.  We had free S/Us even for our core mods!!  But, I ended up only S/U-ing 1 elective. CM2031 - Organic & Bioorganic Chemistry | CORE | 3AU | B+ Midterm CA1 (100%): 41/50 → 82/100 [average: 74/100] This module lives up its name and is very scary.  This mod was taught by 2 profs (Dr. Chiba & Dr. Ito), the same profs that teach this mod in sem 1.  Dr. Chiba teaches the 1st half and Dr. Ito teaches ...

AY18/19 Y1S1 Review

My results for this semester is not out yet, but I will just try to summarise what each module has to offer and what to take note of. I can be quite long-winded though :') I took 6 modules, 21AU in total. I will edit this again after my overall results are released. Edit: Results are out and it is much better than I have expected! I am hoping to maintain my GPA next sem! CM1021 - Basic Inorganic Chemistry with Laboratory | CORE | 4AU | A- Midterm CA1 (15%): 10/10 (average: 8. 27/10) Midterm CA2 (15%): 13/15 (average: 12.25/15) Lab (20%) Finals (50%) This module is basically like JC H2 Chemistry with some new content like Molecular Orbital Theory, which is easy once you get the hang of it, practice makes perfect. I did not quite understand it during lectures but going for tutorials certainly helped. For midterms, doing past year papers (PYP) will help familiarize yourself with the format of the exam, as they do not vary that much. Also, since it is a relatively easy modu...

Objective of this Blog & Why I chose NTU CBC

Hi there! This is my first time ever writing a blog and I have no idea how I should go about doing it so bear with me hahah. I decided to start a blog as when I was researching about my NTU course, I stumbled upon other blogs of my seniors writing about the courses & electives they took, which were very insightful and so I wanted to be able to share about my experience and hope to help others as well. Furthermore, a blog acts as a platform for me to reflect on my university life and to improve on myself. Apart from chemistry, I like writing too, so this could also be a place where I can further hone my writing skills :) I intend to update my blog at the end of each semester and I hope I remember to do so and not get too lazy and procrastinate hahah. Since the course I'm taking is a relatively new course, being in its 14th year when I matriculate (if I'm not wrong), I hope this blog will be of use to others intending to pursue NTU Chemistry & Biological Chemist...
